Care & Maintenance
You chose stems that last. Here’s how to make sure they do.
Faux florals are low maintenance, but not no maintenance. A little intentional care goes a long way toward keeping your stems looking the way they did the day they arrived.
Think of this page as your go-to resource. Bookmark it, come back to it, and use it whenever your arrangements need a refresh.
Every stem is chosen with intention — so it works in your home, not just in a vase.
First Things First: Know Your Stems
Not all faux florals are cared for the same way. True Bloom Floral carries three tiers, each with slightly different needs.
True Bloom stems
Our highest tier. Premium real touch stems with detailed surface coatings. Handle gently and keep completely dry.Real Touch stems
Soft, natural-feeling stems. Clean gently using dry methods or a lightly damp cloth for spot cleaning.Standard faux stems (including filler)
More forgiving. Can be cleaned with a damp cloth or mild soap solution when needed. When in doubt, less is more. Gentle care works for every tier.
Everyday Care: The Four Habits That Matter
1. Dust regularly
Dust dulls color and texture over time. A quick dust every 1–2 weeks keeps stems looking fresh.2. Keep out of direct sunlight
Bright rooms are fine, but prolonged direct sun will fade colors over time, especially deeper tones.3. Avoid heat and humidity
Keep stems away from fireplaces, radiators, kitchens, and bathrooms. Heat and moisture can damage materials.4. Reshape as needed
Real touch stems are flexible. Gently reshape petals or bend wired stems to create natural movement.
Cleaning Your Stems
True Bloom & Real Touch Stems
These require the most careful approach.
What works:
- Soft brush (makeup brush, paintbrush, microfiber cloth)
- Hair dryer on cool, low setting (held at least 12 inches away)
- Gentle shake outdoors
- Lightly damp cloth (Real Touch only, for spot cleaning)
What to avoid:
- Submerging in water
- Harsh cleaners or sprays
- Heat or warm air
Standard Faux & Filler Stems
More flexible and easier to clean.
What works:
- All dry cleaning methods above
- Damp cloth or gentle wipe
- Mild soap solution with cool water
- Salt or cornstarch method (shake in a bag to remove dust)
What to avoid:
- Soaking stems
- Aggressive scrubbing
Reflexing Your Stems
Reflexing is a professional floral technique that opens petals outward to create a fuller, more natural look.
Why reflex?
Stems are packed tightly for shipping. Reflexing opens them up, adds dimension, and transforms the overall look.
Best stems for reflexing:
- Roses
- Peonies
- Tulips
- Gladiolus
How to reflex:
- Work slowly with your fingertips
- Gently bend outer petals backward
- Warm petals slightly between your hands if needed
- Never force anything
A reflexed stem instantly looks more elevated and intentional.
Highly Pigmented Stems
Deep tones like reds, burgundies, and jewel shades may transfer color if pressed against light surfaces for extended periods.
This is normal for richly pigmented materials.
To prevent issues:
- Avoid prolonged contact with light fabrics or surfaces
- Wipe surfaces promptly if transfer occurs
- Give stems space when arranging
Storing Your Stems
How you store your stems matters just as much as how you display them.
- Store upright when possible
- Wrap loosely in tissue paper
- Use a supportive storage box
- Keep in a cool, dry, dark space
- Avoid overpacking
Giving stems space helps preserve their shape and structure.
A Note on Vases
Faux florals don’t create water stains or bacteria, but vase care still matters.
- Dust interiors regularly
- Wipe glass vases to remove smudges
- Use filler (stones or foam) to stabilize arrangements
- If adding water for aesthetics, keep real touch stems above the waterline
How Long Will My Stems Last?
With proper care, True Bloom and Real Touch stems typically last five years or more.
The three biggest factors that shorten their lifespan:
- Direct sunlight
- Dust buildup
- Poor storage
Avoid those, and your arrangements will stay beautiful for years.
